Dyson has done it again. Following the success of its new Supersonic Pro Edition hairdryer, which was relaunched in Australia earlier this year, the brand has announced another revolutionary hair styling tool, the Dyson Airwrap.

What is the Dyson Airwrap?
Dyson’s newest gadget is a styling tool that harnesses the power of airflow to create curls, waves, volume and smoothes the hair without extreme heat or tangling.

The Airwrap comes with eight attachments to create the desired style:

The science: how does it work?
The Airwrap is Dyson’s answer to what it saw as a gap in the market for effective styling tools that didn’t compromise the integrity of the hair. Formulated over more than six years, Dyson’s expertise in manipulating airflow lies at the heart of the new technology.

The Dyson digital motor V9 (the same one that powers its Supersonic) moves airflow through the Airwrap’s styling barrel (or one of three brush attachments, depending on the desired style), which is then dispersed out of six air slots around the barrel.

The pressure created by the motor at the top of the barrel creates a phenomenon known as “the Coanda effect” which allows the hair to curl around the barrel to style. There is no twisting, no pulling, and no tangling – the airflow will move in the same direction as your hair.

“As stylists, we often see the damage that extreme heat can have on hair. Many women have had to compromise on the condition of their hair to create the styles they want. So it’s incredible that Dyson has engineered a tool that enables women to achieve so many different styles and have the best possible hair styling experience. Dyson’s Airwrap is designed to create wet-to-dry styles, with three temperatures and fan speeds, as well as a cool shot to set the style. The technology features many of the same impressive features of the Supersonic, including intelligent heat control (a glass bead thermistor, which measures heat up to 40 times a second to regulate the product’s temperature) and the easy-clean magnetic filter.

For easy (and stylish) storage and transportation, the Airwrap and its many attachments come in a case designed by James Dyson himself.

This new line called “Boys and Girls” is a collection of 50 clutch sized mini lipsticks, named after the people who are most special in his life.

The collection includes 15 new boy and 15 new girl shades from muted to bold, elegant to glamorous and everything in between.
These shades are designed to be worn on their own or layered together. Finishes are creams, matte, metallic, sheer and ultra rich.

TOM FORD is a designer who is as famed for his own personal style as much as his fashion design and the packaging on these mini lipsticks does not disappoint. More and more, we as Makeup Artists are being asked to have vegan alternatives in our kits.  This is why it was so exciting to attend the event hosted by Real Techniques brushes and learn more about their cruelty free brushes.

Real Techniques brushes are designed by pro makeup artists Sam and Nic. The sisters have a combined 30 years of experience, both starting their careers as makeup artists soon after their sixteenth birthdays, working countless fashion shows, red carpets, editorials and collaborating with some of the top fashion photographers and magazines in the world. I love products designed by working makeup artists because they are always looking to solve the problems of pro artists.

The Real Techniques brushes have Taklon bristles and are ultra smooth and soft.  Since Taklon is synthetic it is 100% cruelty-free.  Each brush head is hand-cut to the perfect shape and remain true to shape even after continuous washing.

Real Techniques are good quality, affordable brushes.  I have a quite a few in my kit that are my ‘go-to’ brushes, such as the detailer brush and the lip brush.  They pick up a good amount of colour, blend beautifully and wash well.  Because they are synthetic they are quick to dry which is important when you have a lot of clients to get through.

If you are one to get confused by which brush does what, Real Techniques have made it easy!  Each brush has the purpose it is intended for on the handle plus each colour has it’s own job. Gold handles are for base, Pink handles for Sculpting, Purple for Eyes.

If you are just beginning, the brush sets are a great way to get your brush collection started and I love the slim plastic storage containers that are included.
