MBFWA: MARIAM SEDDIQ RESORT 2019 RUNWAY
STUDIO Sydney Tower set the scene for the Mariam Seddiq Resort 2019 Collection as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week on 16 May 2018. The runway soaked in the afternoon sunlight as guests arrived for pre show champagne and hors d’oeuvres prepared by Head Chef Elton Inglis. The likes of Kellie Hush, Lisa Aiken, Kelsey Lyle and Glynis Traill-Nash who were in attendance, were some of the first to see an Australian fashion show held in the Tower’s history; an event that was special to the team at STUDIO Sydney Tower and also to Mariam. The Resort 19 collection drew inspiration from Mariam’s recent trip to her native Afghanistan with each garment embodying a different piece of her story.
mariam.seddiq Resort 2019 is a body of reflections, moods and intertwined stories that are woven to create a journey throughout this collection. Each story represents the ideals and thoughts experienced by Mariam in her recent travels to Afghanistan.
These are manifested through the differences in landscapes, hues from Camel Beige to Wysteria Blue, the quiet yet strong restraints of bodices through the observations of nature and wind billowing through silhouettes.
Lightly woven Jacquard fabrics custom made in Lyon feature to combine luxury with her signature style. A combination of both athletic couture and architectural form are visible within detailed embellishments.
Resort 19 embraces intricate and artisan techniques, a skill which Mariam acquired from a traditional Afghan sewing circle on her recent travels. She is currently working with the Afghan Women’s Council and prominent leaders of Afghanistan in the establishment of a Fashion Design Institute – a first in Afghanistan’s history.
Resort 19 is an emergence of self and an emergence of culture.
Each Mariam Seddiq garment is proudly made in Australia
