On a recent work trip to Los Angeles, I’m still always amazed at all the freeways and how they never seem to end and I totally respect the fluidity of the engineering behind such planning and calculations.
I’m particularly inspired by the shapes/forms of freeways, highways, circle interchange and of course the monster interchanges that loop around mid air that intertwine each other so effortlessly it seems and there’s such a beauty to all this madness really don’t you think.
From the air anyway.
I wanted the girls hair to be kept tight-to-the-head with a precision part line that was direct without a trace of fluffiness.
I wanted to create a sculpted bun at the back just to keep the hair shape modern yet soft.
The coloured hair wefts are the focal point here, as this is where I wanted to capture the curves and linear edges inspired by the Los Angeles roads.
Cutting the wefts with my long shears to work with the shape of the scalp and carving in the blunt lines.
The blue Los Angeles sky line was the inspiration because is there ever a ugly gray day in LA!!!
The sunset and sunrise were the inspiration, especially when I was working in Malibu on the beach one day and the sunrise was just magic and all the different shades of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.
So in turn here the wefts were keep on the cooler hue of blending blues to purples.
The technique was fusing the full pigment of Directions hair colours together by meshing in by sponges and bleeding the cool shades through from roots to ends.
