Hair Notes

An ethereal, dreamlike state…or maybe a nightmare – what’s real, what’s not?
The creative team found a strong storyline with this above statement.
DISTURBIA represents a collection of curious, lost girls, with emphasis on distortion.
Our team like playing on the side of fantasy yet really wanted to showcase the current trends and looks from current runways and Fashion Weeks. Disturbia is bound together by the futuristic makeup direction and flicker of the camera shutter to create a blur.
The balance of cuts/colouring/styling really showcase the all-round hairdressing skills the Rubi Creative team have cultivated, working cohesively.
We drew inspiration as a collective group from Pinterest, Instagram, Vogue and global Fashion Weeks.
We planned the shoot to be black and white and were conscious of extra details like regrowth shadows and shine lines showing up in the different shades.
We wanted to create something beautiful but at the same time fashion forward and modern, with looks being complemented by contrasting elements. The disconnected haircuts had a sharp perimeter yet soft wispy disconnection on top.
The ribbed braiding look was softened with billowing, windswept waves through the ends. The extreme of shaving tracks/steps in the hair to show the realness of it yet was blurred with some simple effortless-looking ‘bedhead’ buns. Then the simplicity and styling out an afro with soft colour panels to blur yet enhance texture, and a classic glossy platinum blonde.

Beauty Notes

For this collection our aim was to create that dream like state. So for the makeup I wanted to use a combination of dark red vampy lips for some of the looks with a more simple eye and then a darker red eye with a nude lip for the other looks. I did so to create variation within the collection and I choose what look would suit each individual models facial features best. The dark vampy colours of deep reds add to that dream like state as it creates a more dead confused feel to the looks. I added heavy contouring to create more contrast to the look and exaggerate movement within each models facial structure. Each of the looks I paired with a bleached brow this definitely helped draw more attention to the heavy contour as well as the dark toned lip or eye. I made the look appear glossy on both the lips and eyes through out to make the makeup feel more lived in and create a disheveled effect. The skin was natural yet had an exaggerated glow to it. Overall the makeup defiantly added extra dimension to the images and allowed us to create a story and feel of a dream like state.
